The publisher allowed us a number of illustrations. We chose to make montages of photos that were taken during our travels. "This way we get the flavor of the stories," one of us said. We brought to the group as many photos as we could gather. Laboring over them, we picked the most evocative images. There were equally as many photos rejected as those chosen. These are presented as one section of the book.
